A comprehensive peace deal involving a ceasefire, hostage-prowd exchange, and moderate Israeli pullout from Gaza has been agreed by Israel and Hamas after more than two years of severe fighting.

As per the agreement, Hamas will let go of the last captives while Israel will release some hundreds of Palestinian detainees.

The CBC News says that the contract was indirectly negotiated in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with the involvement of the United States, Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt as mediators.

The main actors were Hamas' exiled leadership in Gaza, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, and the Israeli administration led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The framework was significantly advanced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

What It Means for People and Justice

The deal is, for Palestinians in Gaza, a ray of hope for the end of bombings, at least a little, the opening of the door for the influx of humanitarian aid, and the possibility that war-separated families may be united again.

Israelis view the freeing of prisoners as the closing down of one of the most excruciating conflict chapters. By the very fact of the announcement, relief among the world cities and capitals followed cautiously—moreover, it was a general call for both sides to respect the agreement, for human rights to be honored and for international law to intervene in deciding what is next as reported by  in Tel Aviv and .

Challenges and the Road Ahead

The critics are in no doubt that a lot of difficult questions are still to be answered: who will run Gaza, disarmament of Hamas, the practicalities of Israel's pull-out, and the rebuilding of the ruined city and towns.

Equally, past peace attempts have been thwarted by the growing mistrust or delayed implementation. Hence, notwithstanding the symbolic significance of the deal, its success is going to be dependent on the very strict observance of its terms and accountability for all sides.
