From Dust to a Climate Action Hero.

Image
Image credit: EAA In the barren and inhospitable Turkana region of northwestern Kenya, where nothing can grow without water, a young woman is giving life to the land and planting hope into the community. Though the winds are dry and the terrain is dusty, water is still more valuable than gold, and the young woman is carrying out her work to support agriculture in the region.  She is an 18-year-old South Sudanese refugee named Cecilia Adol Adar, who has found shelter in the Kakuma Refugee Camp, which is the residence of over 300,000 displaced people . In a situation where it is often hard to think about the future because of daily struggles of survival, the young woman is making a name for herself not only through her positive attitude but also by the fact that she is raising a voice for climate justice and green innovation. Rising from the Dusty Displaced by conflict in her native South Sudan, Cecilia found herself in Kakuma as a child. But unlike many who saw the refugee camp as a...

Video by CNN newsroom Amid a significant escalation of tensions in the region, the U.S. warships and military assets are heading to Middle East , while  President Donald Trump has demanded an evacuation of Tehran in light of fears of a larger war between Israel and Iran.  The U.S. Navy confirmed that the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and a support strike group had redirected course toward the Persian Gulf. In a world that often fails to see suffering, there are some champions who emerge to speak for and act on behalf of the voiceless - particularly children who are living in poor, neglected and dangerous settings. Children who, despite having potential and hope for a fruitful life, continue to struggle with inadequate food, education, health care and safety. Silence is no longer the only response; strong voices and strong hands have stepped forward to protect and to ignite hopes. Real Heroes for Real Children Mr. Ishmael Ogweno is one of these champions, working through the Blue Cross Society, which is widely known for its innovative work with children and youth who are affected by substance abuse and poverty within the context of Kenya. Mr. Ogweno's tireless efforts to provide accommodation, young adult mentorship within a community-based rehabilitation program has relieved countless children from dependence on drugs, deprivation of shelter, and neglect.  Dr. Klaus Richter articulat...
